I don’t get the “cancel rent” movement. The people pushing it seem like the ones who are able to pay. Why should I not pay rent if I’m able? My mgmt company has shown every indication they will work with you if you cannot. Shows a real lack of grasp about trickle down effects.
So start a fund to help them. Do something useful. Seems juvenile.

I’m not sure the cancel rent movement is the best means to an end, but raising funds strikes me as ineffective in the same way that gofundme’s for medical bills are-it addresses some individual’s needs, but not the underlying structural problems.

I get there are plenty of good management companies and landlords and plenty of tenants who might hop on a movement like that to get out of paying rent, and I’m not saying it’s the answer.

But there are also a lot of abusive landlords out there who will use this time to run up debt on tenants or move to evict vulnerable tenants.

Yeah I think people like to do “solidarity” things only when doing so actually benefits them. I’ve seen people advocating rent cancellation as a moral imperative. But it’s only morally imperative for the renter. Not the landlord who gets screwed. Weird.
