What did you do? Put the lid down and call maintenance? (Gracias a dios, ours was dead but what a bad way to go.)
I slammed the lid down and ran screaming to the front office and since it was after 5 and maintenance had left the evening security guard said he would come take care of it even tho he too is scared.

Just flush the toilet- worked for me when this happened several years ago. My rat was dead though.
