I would ask you this question in response. "If you were a public figure and interested in growing your image beyond the tv screen, what would be the quickest way to do so?" YouTube. So while it is a business move, it would also be fun to personally interact with others. 2/3
So a lot of people are concerned with the verification change announced by @TeamYouTube and a lot of these concerns are legitimate in my opinion. But for those who say it's just a way for celebrities of mainstream media "to make a quick buck," I feel you're wrong. 1/3

Quick note: I forgot to add that many small creators use YouTube to advertise their businesses as well. YouTube is a platform that pays you at a certain point in time, so it's only fair to call out anyone making money on YouTube if you're argument is "big guys making a buck." (;
