1/ According to the PIT count taken in 2020 homelessness had then increased 9% in Seattle/King Co.
Most were staying in emergency shelters (35%), followed by 23% living in ther vehicles & around 18% sleeping outside

2/ The myth that unhoused folks "dont want housing" isn't true. When asked, 95% said they would accept safe/affordable housing if available.
The myth that homelessness is caused only by drug use is also untrue. Losing a job is the most cited reason for homelessness

3/ Homelessness disproportionally impacts POCs. Roughly 25% are black, 15% are indigenous, and 15% are Hispanic.
Among folks who are chronically unhoused (more than 1 yr) some of those #'s increase. For instance roughly 32% are indigenous.

4/ Nearly 1/3 of the unhoused population in Seattle/King Co are children with families and 50% of those are Black families.

5/ "Most homeless aren't from here" is among one of the most pervasive myths.
When asked, 83% said they were living in King Co when they became homeless.
