This is worth watching again every so often. Stephen Fry on self-pity.

  3. Muslims bombing Christians. Christians shooting Muslims. Both, shooting and bombing Jews. All, in the name of ethnic identity, religious dogma, and political ideology. Is this really the world we want? Medieval warfare? Really?

  4. Shame Eaton and the New Statesman chose to take the Buzzfeed route. Would have enjoyed a serious critique of his view of capitalism and his stance on the the Irish question. Instead, we got the usual banal chum for the Twitter sharks.

Twitter is now directly interfering in political elections by banning only some candidates access to the platform. In the US we have the Equal Time Rule for TV and radio, not sure what the UK has but this seems extremely dystopian.

"Easter worshippers" become 'Christians' again when they can be portrayed in a negative light. Amazing turnaround!

WELL worth a read. However, these are not the strongest arguments for liberty. Predictably, they're all consequentialist, which makes all of them vulnerable to arguments from principle -- principles which are themselves odious, but irrefutable from a consequentialist perspective.

The problem with the modern "intersectional" attempt to racialize everything: One can't even read Armstrong's book on Universals, without it being mangled into a perverse confession of some evil motivation, by the lens forced by Critical Theory. You find what you go looking for.

“I sit with Shakespeare, and he winces not. Across the color line I move arm and arm with Balzac and Dumas... From out of the caves of evening... I summon Aristotle and Aurelius and what soul I will, and they come all graciously with no scorn nor condescension..." ~ W.E.B. Dubois

‘The hit job on Roger Scruton is a classic of the genre. Except that in this instance it unravelled, and the whole nature of the trick can now be exposed’.

How many of the 20-somethings wailing and gnashing their teeth on twitter, about a criminal's "right to vote", actually vote, themselves? I wonder...

Modern non-African people carry genetic traces of Neanderthals, Denisovans … and at least one other archaic group. Here’s how artificial intelligence found signs of this ancestral “ghost population.”

All good philosophy, it seems to me, begins with an affirmation of the value life, and with the contemplation of the self-awareness that makes that value possible.

This is way worse than a "cancel culture" fad, or even the refusal of redemption. This is the epidemic of Stazi-ism that is taking over the culture. Not just on the internet. Everywhere. We are all looking for an enemy we can slay. Soon, we will all be each others' enemies.

Hear Karl Popper outline his theory of falsification, in his own words. I only know a bit of German, so could only understand about half of this. But there are subtitles. Enjoy!
