Out today! Reconstruction of the crazy ant phylogeny & biogeography in . A huge genus of ants finally gets global treatment. Note the remarkable number of taxonomically challenging globetrotting species.

Our new global phylogeny with a focus on globetrotting species is out! We used this backbone phylogeny to determine the age and origin of the genus & describe major historical biogeographic patterns.

Does anyone have recommendations for microscope LED gooseneck lights? Our old lab used to buy one from Fisher but I think that's been discontinued...

A smart summary of this big project! Our humble pavement ants are a familiar species that kids in the USA watch and play with on sidewalks. They have been spreading since their establishment 200 years ago... 🐜🐜🐜

Question for you out there: when did the term “Taxonomic Impediment” first come into usage? Any references welcome. Thanks!

"One of the biggest issues holding back our understanding of trophallaxis and the social circulatory system in ants is that we dont know which species do trophallaxis and which dont! Help us by telling us if you see trophallaxis in your favourite species: "

I hope this inspires others, too! research can really benefit from teaming up with local communities - especially since common species are usually underrepresented in museum collections.
