The fact that most people are ready to pay dozens of dollars to get a couple of hours of Wifi in their flight tells you just how much consumer surplus is generated by the Internet the rest of the time.

Meh. They have no BATNAs on a plane

Your BATNA is no Internet! That's how you uncover how much you'd actually be ready to pay for it, in the absence of competition.

I meant more that in real world you get lots ofconsumer value from lots of other things. But on plane if no internet you get nothing done typically. But agree with you haha

Yes! The conditions are often exactly perfect for using wifi: carrying your laptop, tablet or phone, stuck seated with a tray right in front of you, unable to make a phone call but still able to send emails or messages, and often thinking about business you're travelling for.

Or it is just confirmation that most can't sit with their own thoughts for a prolonged period of time.

And I'm usually prepared to pay double what they ask. It's the only way I can tolerate flying 30k ft in the air, trapped in a tin can, piloted by someone who's boss is incentivized to have him fly as many hours as he can before being fatigued to the point of crashing.

€12 for 15mbps for a 2 hour flight is all you need to know

Assume it’s mostly business travelers with inelastic demand due to clients or employers footing the bill

Or it tells you we facing some seriously inelastic demand functions.
