You'd be surprised by how many San Franciscans think that the problem with human feces or used syringes on sidewalks is the "lack of empathy" of those who notice them. That or their "sense of entitlement."

I think VC's should fund a startup company to take over SF government (legally, by elections). It might do more social good than other crazy funded companies.
-
That’s actually an amazing idea
-
We should create a term sheet. Lol

worth listening https://www.breaker.audio/this-is-your-life-in-silicon-valley/e/35475331 … he suggests someone like sam altman could change up things radically but then work anti capitalism millennials working in tech will surely oppose
-
Thx. Just listened to that. Completely agree with
@antoniogm. And, we do need a "Guiliani". I experienced the scary 70's & 80's NYC, which is EXACTLY what SF is today. SF does need a "Guiliani", a workaholic who put his dept leaders on the spot in daily 6 am mtgs. -
You’re all terribly misguided. No, we don’t need an hostile takeover by people who belong to Mars. And I know you “paraphrased” but Giuliani married his cousin, is a terrible human in general, & is in cahoots with the Russian mob in particular (Five Families out, Mogilevich in).
-
I agree with the original joke-not-joking observation, to be clear. Just, wow, please, both solutions are worse than the current state.
-
1. Guiliani fixed NYC. You should've seen what Dinkins did before. As for Guiliani's private life and current job, it's a nuclear disaster site. 2. Any leadership change would be gradual, prob happening over years. Sudden shifts in expectations cause a lot of unhappy citizens.

Worst cities by what measure? Surely not GDP (SF is Top 10) or unemployment rate (SF had 2.4% unemployment in June). What you’re seeing is people recognizing the end-game of capitalism and income inequality. And they’d rather sweep it under the rug than address it with $$$.

My point, to say nothing of socialism, is that if the US is evidence of “successful capitalism,” than capitalism is a dying model.

Americans ARE migrating to other places. Because they have better health care. Better social programs. Are better to their people. Many aren't only because they have been led to believe that we're some shining city on a hill and that everything else is 3rd world.
-
Or you could just leave people alone and let them lead their own lives? (Also I assume that by “castle” you mean 250sqft studio)

You're right, they should pass laws against shitting on the sidewalk. Oh, wait, there are already such laws. Oops. OK, laws against injecting heroin on the street! Wait, those already exist, too. OK, so what should the supes be doing again?
-
That’s an easy one: provide housing for the homeless. It’s been tried and it works.
-
You might need to subsidise utilities, have a working healthcare system and job assistance program, but the money spend on supporting any human is an order of magnitude less than not supporting them.
-
Where it falls apart is that they're human, and humans have free will, and most of the homeless are mentally incapacitated in one of the many ways humans are capable of. Upshot: They refuse to cooperate and you can't make them.
-
That's a common misconception that can be remedied by an internet search our deeper reading.
-
Yes. The most common misunderstanding is that homeless people don’t want a home: they absolutely do. What they don’t want is to be parked in warehouses full of people with low social skill, improper hygiene, territorial dogs and high ratio of mental scars. No one would.
-
Strong agree. I'm speaking to the "most homeless are mentally ill" misconception.
-
It’s shortsighted to suggest by giving homeless will solve the problem. I work with homeless daily. Many refuse it when offered vouchers with available units. Why pack into shared living spaces when the ocean is your backyard? Start enforcing again, crack down, that’s how u start
