Prosecutors were asking for 18 month sentence. Looks like Barr is representing Butina (and Trump?) against prosecutors representing the Unites States.https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/20/prosecutors-request-18-month-prison-sentence-for-russian-agent-maria-butina.html …
-
where do you see Barr or the DOJ mentioned in this article? it's the prosecuting atty that will ask for sentence along w/guidelines for charges brought.
-
1. My mistake. The Mar 29 WAPO article cited by
@AltUSPressSec said prosecutors were requesting deportation at sentencing - when Butina had been in jail since July.@AltUSPressSec, who I replied to said "Barr is joining Russian spy Maria Butina in requesting she be sent home -
2. to Moscow without serving her sentence." Alt was apparently substituting "Barr" for "prosecutors". The April 20 CNBC article I cited says prosecutors asking for 18 mos. I didn't mention DOJ.
-
Actually, the request was made by Barr's DOJ, filed quietly late on a Friday, same week he had us distracted w/his 4-page "summary". Request filed by the office of Trump Transition Team member Jessie Liu, whom Mueller's Grand Jury & cases are also being quietly transferred to.
-
Her office also appears to have coordinated w/Barr in additional REDACTIONS to Mueller Report - by using the gag order in Roger Stone's case as an excuse to redact more stuff from report.

Jessie Liu is in a working group with Barr. They’re close. She’ll also have the prosecution decision on all Congressional Contempt referrals. That’s the real reason she wasn’t given the #3 spot at DOJ she was promised. She needs to be at D.C. to catch & kill contempt referals.
-
It’s also why we need to remember that Congress has an inherent Constitutional power of Contempt, and even their own jail.pic.twitter.com/7yYUJdYMMW

Barr was brought in to cover for the GOP....not just trump.
-
That has been my contention since seeing Barr’s confirmation hearing. Barr is, & always has been, a partisan fixer. NOT an upholder of the constitution or democracy.
#Barr &#McConnell will go down in history as major architects & engineers of#Republican evil. -
Hope they don't ultimately take the country down with them. There's certainly a far from zero chance that they will.
-
They already have. It’s just been happening in slow motion since Reagan.

Does this mean her testimony is not needed for future trials? Because we’ll never get her back if we let her go.
-
It means Barr & Trump want her out of reach, so she can't testify.
-
That’s exactly what it means!! Barr is operating as Trumps personal defense attorney not as the US AG which is what he is being paid to do. Outrageous.
-
Actually I think it really means Barr is also a traitor and on Putin's payroll like
#TraitorTrump -
Barr is definitely a traitor.
-
The problem with subscribing to the Unitary Executive theory is taking an oath to uphold the Constitution then immediately subverting that in service to an office, if not a person. The Constitution doesn’t stop having three articles just bc your boss happens to be one of them.
-
It’s certainly possible for a person to espouse the theory; but not to also be AG, take the oath of office, and be intellectually honest. There’s another motive in there somewhere. Don’t know what it is yet.
-
Do you mean Barr's motives? What were his motives when he arranged pardons for the Iran-Contra guys?
