Only in the crazy world of academia would I be asked if I'd like to supply a cover-image for a journal, and then actually be charged more than $1600 US for the privilege! Surely they should be paying me! Ridiculous.

New paper🥳🥳about the consequences of sea-level rise on extreme events. We wanted to understand the impact of uncertainties in future greenhouse gas emissions and the Antarctic Ice Sheet contribution on future changes in the occurrence of extreme sea levels. (1/n)

Global temperature now stands at 1.2 °C above the mean for 1880-1910, according to NASA data. And that without an El Niño event (the peaks in 1998 and 2016 were due to strong El Niño). Global cooling forecasts by climate skeptics because of the dim sun were nonsense. Of course.

Where does the concept of a global "carbon budget" come from, and how have scientists positioned the concept in relation to climate policy? My new paper on the history of the global carbon budget: (it's open access!)

When asked whether all glaciers on Earth are shrinking, glaciologists point out the & Western Kun Lun as regions with close to balance. Our new publication sums up the understanding of this so-called “Karakoram Anomaly”.

So is in the Top 20 globally (2nd in Australia) of universities contributing to climate action. That's great but it surprises me. There's so much more we could do, and hopefully will do, with major campus changes.

Our new study uses Bayesian techniques to infer ice thickness & its uncertainty. Results for the 30K modeled glaciers are in-line with the G2TI estimates. During the MCMC runs more than 100 million ice thickness maps were calculated, powered by !

JPL’s Alex Gardner showing glaciers & ice caps around the world are “just giving up” and collapsing entirely, rapidly. Thousands of them. “They’re exhausted and just… go.” I fear the Greenland ice sheet is working its way toward this rn. 😬
