There are real differences between the candidates in this race — and it is no longer enough to simply be pro-choice. @MichelleSiri and I will aggressively protect & expand the right to abortion care in Maryland, starting by appointing a Deputy Secretary for Reproductive Rights.

MD needs more folks like . She’s smart & innovative—and also one of the rare candidates who truly cares, shows up everywhere, & goes above & beyond to be accessible, listen, and respond to EVERYONE. Idk how she has time, but it’s a superpower & she’s got my vote💯

Maybe Tucker Carlson is confident women WON’T shoot him and therefore are a lower risk scapegoat than the shooters themselves. Interesting theory, though. Seems to me that women, anti-depressants, and weed are a better recipe for a nap than a mass shooting.

Conservatives' masculinity panic has been a constant as far back as we care to look, back to Antiquity. Tucker Carlson's version of shrewish harpies feminizing men is straight out of a misogynist '50s comedy, either the 1950s or the 350s BCE. msn.com/en-us/news/us/

Well, Clarence Thomas is probably one of those people who thinks sexual orientation is a choice, and SCOTUS just gave a lot of women a fantastic reason to be completely disgusted with a lot of men.
Quote Tweet
NEW: Vice President Kamala Harris just said Clarence Thomas “said the quiet part out loud” when he said the court should now go after gay marriage, birth control, and the basic right to privacy. “This is not over. He just said the quiet part out loud. This is profound.”

“Unable to determine how spent the day” My initial thought was so crude it violated even my standards of acceptable things to say on twitter. I didn’t even know I had any! Luckily, will send him packing anyway, & redistricting moved me to MD03 😁

As congressional Republicans scurried from view Thursday, Governor Hogan expressed grave concern about his party’s future. Maryland Matters was unable to determine how Rep. Andrew P. Harris, Maryland’s lone Republican in congress, spent the day. marylandmatters.org/2022/01/06/gop

1st time I met , my 🚘 got towed. AND he’s cropped me from pics! 💜 him anyway, he’s that cool. Earlier I mentioned folks who are proof against “all politicians are [X]” claims. Robbie’s up there. We can have good people in office IF we support them. Help him out.

Hey friends, We've decided to cancel all of our scheduled house parties and meet-and-greets during this COVID surge. I want to thank our gracious hosts for offering up their homes in support of my race for Baltimore County State's Attorney. Please do me a favor though. 1/2

🤔 So many questions. What if you become the Pope rather than marry and have kids?
Quote Tweet
Pope Francis has criticized couples who choose to have pets instead of children as selfish, arguing that their decision to forgo parenthood leads to a loss of "humanity" and is a detriment to civilization. cnn.it/3qTMq3E

Who needs competition when we can have a race to the bottom instead?🙄

Redistricting update: heading into Thanksgiving, maps have either passed or await signature in 20 states. So far, strong/lean Trump districts are up 14% and strong/lean Biden districts are up 8%. Competitive districts? Down 58%. Full story: cookpolitical.com/analysis/house

Plz and company who endorsed Judge Turffer…after hearing his comment about “no evidence of psychological trauma,” - would you endorse him again? The public would like to know. Thanks.
Quote Tweet
Replying to @AllisonforMD
Luckily, Truffer will be 70 in about 5 yrs and need to retire. Truth be told, he was endorsed by some high profile elected @mddems, and I have not seen evidence of any of them publicly calling him out...another reason endorsements are problematic. 👇 sittingjudges.com/news/2016/10/e

4) Cultural attitudes towards rape / VAW. Get it together already, people. While I’m sure it’s easier to chalk women up as conniving sluts than hold men accountable, maybe we could start taking VAW at least as seriously as we take something like, idk, beating your dog. Ffs.

2)County PD: “Westerman has been suspended from county PD without pay since he was charged.” Glad its w/o pay, but is he accumulating other benefits? Why is he still employed w/ this many cases? Does PD routinely employ ppl who in theory ought to be registered as sex offenders?

More on judges (serious question, I don’t know), what options are available to hold judges accountable when they have 10 years until their next election? If the answer is nothing, or they’re all far fetched…then how do we change THAT?

Someone tell me where there’s a requirement to provide “evidence of psychological injury” here? Heads should roll for this.

Outrage of the day: Balto Co judge sentences police officer convicted of second degree rape to home detention because he didn't see evidence of psychological injury to the victim. Rape = psychological injury + more. Does this really need to be taught? baltimoresun.com/news/crime/bs-

What if a provider’s religious beliefs / “conscience rights” prohibited blood transfusions? Surgeries? If providers don’t want to perform certain medical procedures, maybe they should go into a field of practice that doesn’t involve them rather than 💩 all over patient rights.
Quote Tweet
Defending the conscience rights of healthcare providers should be of great interest to all Americans, and is of grave importance to me as a physician, especially in light of recent failures to do so by the Biden Administration. foxnews.com/politics/house

And maybe that we’re about to do the same thing AGAIN. I’m pretty sure political blowback will be over Hogan vetoing ANY map they vote on, and whether it’s a cruddy 7-1 map v brazenly gerrymandering Andy Harris into retirement is irrelevant beyond 8-0 map at least making sense.
1
Show this thread
TBC, I oppose gerrymandering & support ending it at whatever level we can. Beyond ethics, we’d be better off longterm, despite the cost. But if you’re going to do bad things, do them right. Only thing worse than current map is that it could’ve been 8-0 but instead we got Harris.
Quote Tweet
Sitting in LRAC hearing about these maps was probably one of the most intellectually dishonest things I’ve ever witnessed. Everybody knows what’s going on here. If we’re going to pay the price of gerrymandering (decimating our own bench through 20 counties)…go big or go home. twitter.com/Redistrict/sta…

This isn’t about 1 seat in Congress, but future of MD Dems. We are a 2:1 state—not showing up in rural areas (MAPS!) cost us gov race 2x in a row. There are only so many new voters to register. If we lose, that’s on us—we better do better before even stolen maps won’t save us.

It doesn’t stop at county seats, or legislative seats within a region. You know what gives Dems the best chance at winning MD01? MD06? Governor? Comptroller? Investing. Competing. PACKING EVERY SEAT ON EVERY BALLOT WITH SOLID CANDIDATES who work together to turn out voters.

GOP is all over it, gerrymandering to tighten their stranglehold. Where you have a chance (maps) you have candidates. Competition. Money. Infrastructure. Choice. People register as the dominant party. People like choice. Without fair maps, we only have false choice.

Our bench SHOULD consist of people who held office at county/state levels. If you want to run as a dem in a 6-1 map controlled by GOP, you tell me right now, I’ll train you myself. We can’t recruit candidates in over half of MD. How long do you hold stolen seats with no bench?

Case in point, Harford County (redder parts of which any dem MoC is justified in not wanting). Harford isn’t 6-1 R. 4-3 maybe—*just enough* to make or break a GOP supermajority, giving them 🛎🛎🛎 - CONTROL OF THE MAPS. Which they in turn draw tighter and tighter, ad infinitum.

MD Dems uses GOP gerrymandering in other states as an excuse for the incumbent protection program (IPP?) at MD state/congressional levels. GOP then uses that as an excuse for IPP at county levels…in 20 counties. We celebrate stealing 4-5 seats…they celebrate stealing DOZENS.
