        Yesterday I heard her say that opportunity should be based on “people’s academia” not their school. Perhaps if she didn’t manage an English Language GCSE C grade, my puzzlement at the use of the word “academia” there was well placed.

        Thats true Hilary, but not as an example that all private schools should be disbanded. The two examples do not marry.

        You can get an A in Art by drawing a decent circle. You can get A in Eng Lit & Lang by describing, in writing, a book you've read. Nothing above a D is nothing to be proud of and is the fault of the individual, not the fault of the school.

        You can't, actually. Please try finding out what one needs to do to get an A pass at GCSE before spouting this nonsense. I got 10 O levels in the early 1980s, and saw how much work my 2 stepdaughters had to do for their GCSEs. They had to work just as hard, if not more so
