  1. I work with and know so many incredible female physicians - my wife being one of them. Female physicians face challenges that I'll never experience. And yet they perservere, inspire, and continue to help so many. What a great day to celebrate their achievements and contributions

  2. So much damage stemming from one fraudulent, since retracted, publication. This report included only 12 children...with NO controls. THIS is what caused so many to falsely believe that cause autism despite multiple well conducted studies demonstrating they do not.

This is not good news. Continue to talk to your kids about the risks of vaping. If your child vapes, get professional help to help them stop. If they're addicted they need help. You can't simply forbid it.

  4. My personal - a recurrent stream of non-evidence based & false medical claims surrounding: -Food sensitivity testing -Immune boosting supplements -Essential oils -Himalayan salt lamps : Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

  5. When I was on staff in 2009, saw a man on elevator wearing a hoodie. I quickly recognized him as . He visited the cancer ward every week. No media. No entourage. Just doing a very meaningful thing consistently. So happy for his induction!

  6. Great advice - I’ll add on rashes as well. I see so many kids with concerns over a now resolved rash. When pics are available it makes a huge difference. 👍

  7. Honey is delicious! But it will not 'boost' your immune system. (Or treat pollen allergies - another widely touted claim not supported by any evidence). It brings me great joy when people think of me upon seeing these shenanigans out in the real world. 😆

  8. Lastly, please discuss any concerns with your personal allergist - they are there to help and best suited to understand the important factors pertaining to your care. The psychosocial impact of living w increasingly being recognized...still have LONG way to go.

  10. A common bias that impacts us all: Recency bias Just because you read this story doesn’t mean YOUR risk suddenly changes if you go out into public or ride the subway. YOUR risk doesn’t change based upon what you do or don’t read...but your PERCEPTION of risk can (Recency bias)

  11. Back to the peanut butter on subway rails: Being near this will not likely cause any symptoms for most people w peanut allergy. Touching it can cause some to have local rash/swelling. Soap can remove. Overall - it’s disgusting & unnecessary. Understanding risk very important.

  12. Anyone w who has anxiety surrounding casual exposure would benefit from a proximity challenge. Allergists can safely show you exactly what will happen if food contacts your skin (likely nothing). GREAT way to gain control!

  13. Do some people w react through skin contact or airborne exposure? Absolutely. But not everyone does. Risk factors include underlying asthma/eczema. Anaphylaxis or any allergic reaction from breathing in peanut butter exceptionally rare - protein not aerosolized.

  14. Highest risk for reaction and especially anaphylaxis comes with ingestion. Touching a food allergen or being near it poses much less risk for any reaction at all, esp. anaphylaxis. Great article from discusses further:

  15. It’s important for anyone w to realize that everyone is different. Even those w same food allergy may have different thresholds that would cause ANY reaction, let alone anaphylaxis. One reason why other people’s anecdotes may have zero applicability to anyone else.

  16. I hear from people every day how they worry about being exposed to peanut in the environment. The what if scenarios can easily lead to severe anxiety. Many people limit their travel/social experiences due to elevated perception of risk that’s often very different from real risk

  17. Bizarre story out of NYC - peanut butter smeared on some subway hand rails. If you have peanut allergy, it’s easily understandable why this would raise concern. This is a great opportunity to discuss REAL risk from exposures vs PERCEIVED risk. Thread ⬇️

  20. Many unanswered questions surrounding oral immunotherapy for : Who is optimal candidate? Who is at greatest risk for severe side effects? How long to use: Years-life long? Is it medically necessary? Some children naturally have threshold higher than maintenance dose
