Imagine being pissed at a cool detail that references an old game
-
-
-
Well, I mean, imagine that detail being from a, what's definitely considered, a racist stereotype. I don't involve myself in these things, but there's two sides to a coin.
-
The Mario Brothers are Italian stereotypes!
-
mario has barely ever been an italian stereotype, and most of his "italian stereotypes" were given to him via north american iterations and not the canonical japanese ones.
-
Doesn't change the fact that it still existed.
-
mario is, in his most recent common appearances, not at all an italian stereotype and hasn't been since the early 90s. Whereas game and watch is a blatant racist stereotype here that should have stayed where it belongs in the 80s.
-
Imagine getting overly sensitive over a video game sprite from three decades ago
-
imagine being okay with racist imagery in 2018

I honestly didn't see how it was offensive
-
What existed before was a caricature of a Native American, taken from a Game & Watch game where the objective was to throw large objects at Natives with torches. It's not a pretty look.
-
I'm native and I'm not offended, it's a game
-
Well, if it's just a game, then it shouldn't matter that it's being changed. :]
-
"The NAs are offended!" "Actually we're not" "Well It's a small change anyways so it doesn't matter" heh
-
Just because one person who's native says they aren't offended doesn't mean they speak for everyone. I've seen people who are Native come out and say they're not ok with this.
-
Why do people get offended on behalf of others? That's the real question.
-
I never said I was offended. My entire point is that the removal of one small graphic doesn't matter in the long run.

I still think that it was a bit of silly claim... The whole point was that each of Mr. Game & Watch's moves were supposed to depict the original Game & Watch game that it's referencing. Kinda hate this day in age where everyone gets offended at every little thing. :/
-
This same game that it was referencing was also changed long ago. This isn't new
-
Lmao next thing you know they're going to start adding an alt for every skin color for each character so no race is offended by their underrepresenation
. I dont really have a problem with the feather being removed but this goes to show how offended everyone is by little things -
They already added tan villagers and tan inklings. And a tan Pokemon Trainer. As someone with darker skin myself I'd actually welcome more tan alts on characters.
-
Especially since like, all the ones you listed are avatar characters so limiting them to one race doesn't even make sense in terms of representing the franchise properly.
-
Note I'm a white dude and I used Villager Alt 7 (purple shirt) because it was the most "me" alt. At first I was like "well now it's not literally me" but got over it in like, a minute because, ya know, *gestures to most of the human cast*
-
Meanwhile I reversed! I used it cause I like the shirt and playing AC that's the default I end up getting answering honestly. Since I am dark, the fact it's darker is enough to make me wanna play the character more cause I get to play a little me! :3
-
Purple is my favorite color (guess why) so I'm still gonna use it, and it's not much different than how I used to play Emmett a lot in PSAS. It's just kinda funny I got a character wearing my favorite color that looked like me and now that specific one is suddenly black
