Yup I concur!! Have there been any remakes that you personally preferred over the original?

I'm fascinated by the idea––and if I had the time and mental bandwidth I'd do a piece on it––how "unofficial" remakes get acclaimed for being "in conversation" with classics (like FIRST REFORMED and WINTER LIGHT/DIARY OF A COUNTRY PRIEST) whereas "official" remakes get blasted.
-
I’ve wondered this too, is it possible that the “unofficial” ones tend to offer something fresher and better and more creative than the “official” ones? This may not always be true, but it seems to be a lot of the time.

I used to do that. For me it came from the same attitude that i had towards book adaptations. It's partially nostalgia, partially a sort of tribalistic loyalty, and partially resistance to anything "new". Basically it is usually bs, and kinda silly.
-
I'll still be hopping mad about a Princess Bride remake though, don't get me wrong. Talk about a "perfect film" and a classic.
Okay FINE, I'll be apprehensive. I will always love that original though. It's silly and imperfect, and a rolicking good time of a fairy tale!pic.twitter.com/aoTXgJjpkt - Show replies

I still have the emotional scars from calling the TOTAL RECALL remake/re-adaptation not-terrible. Like somehow I simultaneously urinated all over everyone's DVDs/Blus of the Ahnuld film.
-
It’s absurd to me how people also treat movie adaptions like they’re the original content and not the books they’re based on. So many people call the Arnold movie “the original” and not the PKD book.

I love it when older stuff is revisited and updated or tweaked in an original way, but some remakes are just blatant money grabs and will never be nearly as good as the original (and don’t even try to be good) - Point Break, for example.
-
Sure. I never said they weren't. I said I don't understand people who automatically hate remakes or get ultra-snobby about them.
