A more simplified way to frame what's happening now: This isn't cancel culture. This is consequence culture. And some people hate the sudden accountability while others worry the focus will turn to them because they have much to be accountable for.

It's still happening, it's just acceptable when the system is patriarchal, racist/discriminatory, misogynistic. When the "default" is pushed down everyone's throat, people aren't critical and consider it "normal". Then when some people start being critical it's "wTf wHy cAnCel?"

That's the true cancel culture - repressing the voices of those who did not resemble the powers-that-abuse. What they are calling cancel culture these days is actually consequences culture. And it is about time that they faced the consequences.

Yuuuuup. It's like the people who get banned from Twitter or arrested for something they said and then hide behind the First Amendment. The 1st only gives you the right to say what you want, my dudes. It doesn't shield you from the consequences of what you say.
