It’s just embarrassing sometimes how easily the left gets played automobile industry convinced folks that car ownership is gritty working class while buses are gentrifier icons cash bail industry got a bunch of us to defend it by saying “algorithms” in a spoooooky voice

The algorithm that was suppose to replaced cash bail was pretty shitty tbh. So much the SoCal ACLU opposed Prop 25 . I voted yes, but I don’t think we should dismiss how bad the algorithm actually was.

The initial bill was super good. It was something
@chesaboudin and others worked really hard on, were really supportive of, and then backed out when the changes were made. We should reintroduce it as originally intended and get it passed.1 reply 0 retweets 9 likes -

We should! But when it came time to actually vote, the ACLU and others chose to be clown themselves by joining hands with the cash bail industry

I wouldn’t say they clowned themselves. It wasn’t great as proposed. A lot of fixing was need had it passed. I voted yes but it not passing is a “meh.”

... criminal justice system would codify that bias and perpetuate it indefinitely. Such an algorithm would assign greater risk to black defendants because that's how the system is weighted now. At least under the current system, we have a chance at nominating more enlightened 2/

... judges. We need to get rid of cash bail, but not like this. If people are all hot for a tech solution, why not invest in ankle monitors, and use that to restrict movements while a trial is pending to home, work/working area, doctor's office, gas station, and grocery store? 3/

If multimillion dollar companies actually paid taxes, and the uber-rich "law & order" crowd were taxed at a reasonable rate, funding that shouldn't be a problem. 4/4
