I get tired of this nonsense. Having worked with NPs all my career, I view propaganda like this as nothing more than turf protection, plain and simple. I often wonder why doctors like Dr. Elle don't spend nearly as much time and effort opposing naturopathic licensing bills. 1/https://twitter.com/McknightmdEllen/status/1104361877583417345 …

Be careful what you challenge me with. I might just take another deep dive. It's been five years; so the time is ripe. I also note that five years ago the literature most definitely did not support the contention that NPs provide inferior care. Any bets that that's changed?

It seems you are saying it is foolish for anyone to take 15,000 hrs to learn how to diagnose and treat patients when they could provide the same quality care with 600 hrs. Why not shut down the medical schools? No. There are many sad stories being compiled--just wait.

The “literature “ such that it is, is biased, poorly powered and the important things that it studies are mostly useless. Come out, come out into the real world, and be there with us to clean up the messes that would shock the hell out of you.

These are extremely good questions and virtually impossible to discuss over Twitter. We (UW) have several services run by NPs (hematology, heart failure) and the results are terrific.

The big questions here are: are we overtraining our medical students? Who’s best suitable to take care of the ever increasing number of the chronic ill? These are very important questions to tackle.
