Why do attempts by the left to shut down free speech bother me more than attempts by the right? Because the left should really get it.

I'm inclined to see this problem as evidence of a shift to post-literacy culture. In literate cultures people encountered difficult ideas and views often. Now they are encountered rarely and thus quashed because terrifying.

Au contraire. On social media you see the worst versions of opposing views, nuance is overrun by passionate simplicity. People think all opposing positions align with the worst versions they see online, thus are worthless and deserving of censorship.

And does anyone think the right is *less* dangerous if they're forced to act clandestinely?

It's becoming clear to me there has always been more than one left, and that the liberal left must disavow their illiberal counterparts.

Communism is left, and imposing it on any society demonstrably always requires authoritarianism. This shouldn't be much of a surprise, but we aren't as educated about it as we should be.

The implication that the right would not “get it” is straight up bigotry with a strong odor of haughtiness.

Probably because you and likely everyone in the thread agreeing with you aren't a visible minority and the target of Nazism and White suppremacy. To the non-minority, we as a subject in the moral dilemma will always be hypothetical. Doesn't warrant the same weight in the debate.

You're hallucinating "Nazism" and "White supremacy". These are now slogans used by far-leftists to intimidate and smear anyone that doesn't fall in line with their anti-empirical, radical ideological agenda.
