SARS-CoV-2 stays airborne & accumulates indoors, so🇩🇪German government is betting on ventilation. ✔️Help to schools for air purifiers; ✔️Grants to improve ventilation systems in buildings; ✔️Deploy CO2 sensors to tell how stale the air in a room is. https://bbc.in/2FSCVyb pic.twitter.com/nF1M3MMAfX

Chancellor Merkel previously said ventilation may be one of cheapest and most effective ways of containing the virus. Government guidelines were extended to include airing indoor spaces, including in schools.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/30/germans-embrace-fresh-air-to-ward-off-coronavirus …

Germany's guidelines to tackle the virus, encapsulated in the acronym AHA, which stands for distancing, hygiene and face coverings, will be extended to become AHACL. The “C” stands for the government’s coronavirus warning app, and “L” for Lüften or airing a room.

Portable HEPA filtration air cleaners should also work during winter, no?

Yes. In a typical 80m sq classroom with 2.7m high ceilings a mid range should give you a couple of extra air changes/h with fan on full. I think the consensus is to aim for >/= 5, so 2 air purifiers or 1 purifier + open windows/ doors should go a long way.

However, the US doesn’t value K-12 the same way. We pay teachers poorly. We have old buildings that don’t have appropriate HVAC systems now. Many don’t have A/C. Many classrooms have no windows. We can’t keep guns out of them.

if the up arrow were closer to the floor, we'd drop transmission massively.

Totally agree. We need to put 2-3 HEPA filters in each classroom across the country.

What a great idea, just such a shame that the UK Government won't consider the same unless they can outsource it to some dodgy mate
