That crazy melt event that got noticed on George VI Ice Shelf last week? I've been looking at where my surface melt model MONARCHS (coming to a Github repository near you soon!) think that water should be just based on surface topography...

Our paper on meltwater transfer across the Nivlisen Ice Shelf is now online for open review! We use semi-automated methods to track the migration of surface lakes and streams throughout the 2016-2017 melt season.

Today marks 200 years since the discovery of . Some scientists worry the continent is near a tipping point—especially worrisome because the melting of its ice sheets could significantly raise global sea levels. More from : .

On this day 200 years ago, humans first sighted the continent of Antarctica. Since then we took nearly all of its whales and heavily depleted its marine life, dissolved its ozone, warmed its ocean and melted its ice. From the point of view of this amazing place it was a bad day.
