I was thrilled to write this piece for on the CGI resurrection of Peter Cushing in Rogue One: A Story. "Acting is the art of presence. A digital resurrection, however well-intentioned or well-executed, has at its heart an absence."

ICYMI, I wrote on a play about C.S. Lewis for Catholic Arts Today: "The Bible says we are not to mourn like those who have no hope. And yet we shouldn’t be like the complacent clergyman who tries to bully Lewis into cheerfulness right after Joy’s funeral."

It's correct to criticize this judge. Prisoners, even those who have done terrible things, are not "monsters" we can use (rhetorically and literally!) like subhuman beasts. Wishing rape-as-punishment (even on rapists) is itself wicked and contributes to our broken prison system.

So, sounds like they’re re-inventing sumptuary laws, except instead of class warfare of nobles vs the bourgeois, it’s everyone vs the poor.

This is the opposite of what Catholics believe. “Individual as sole arbiter” is a concept alien to lives & teachings of Christ & the saints!
