Lilo & Stitch works as a movie in part because its characters occupy a continuum of cartooniness, with most aliens being "toonier" than humans and Stitch being a pure cartoon.

At the far end of the realistic continuum you have Nani who is dealing with *very* human problems relating to her career, her family, her culture, her relationships, and then you've got her little sister who has a child's understanding of the world and an alien "dog"...

...and then you've got the slapstick/comedic aliens who are after Stitch, and then you have Stitch who is literally indestructible and selectively defies laws of physics and rationality.

And part of why that works is that it's in a cartoon medium, which is suited to that kind of storytelling through visual cues (the humans look like humans, but children are slightly more stylized than teenagers/adults). Stitch can be presented as both monstrous and endearing.

Honestly, that would be the way to do it. If they're going to do 3D CGI, at least go with a cel shaded look.https://twitter.com/WhiteMageSlave/status/1327647289427566593 …

On the other hand, if they wanted to make a live-action spinoff with Agent Cobra Bubbles, I would heartily approve of that.

They wouldn't even have to recast him. Just put Ving Rhames in a suit and let him glower and deadpan at people for 90 minutes.

I just...please stop doing this Disney. We know you can render hair and fur, it's great.

Ugh, I wish they’d do more original cartoon animation films than spending so much money on live action reboots (with varying, though mostly middling at best, degrees of success).
-
Haven’t watched a single one of the live action reboots, because why?
