Always such an odd statement. As if there's only ever one right answer to a complex situation. In creative fields especially there are a million directions one can go and to think that there's a "best" one is... well, there's probably lots of ways to describe it.

the person who's professional skills suit the job the most and character traits more compatible with the established team would be a pretty good definition for the "best" candidate

straight white men can afford to say that because the best person for the job historically has been them

Considering diversity makes for a much stronger team / better product they are the best person for the job anyways; its a nonsense argument.

"best" is subjective. To one person that could mean the most qualified, another the most skilled and still another someone who's completely different. Best is defined by the purpose for which the hiring has commenced. Which is why it's subjective.

On second thought, maybe I shouldn’t be on Twitter when it is nearly 2AM, due the tiredness making my words come out wrong…
