This week has been difficult and exhausting. But I'm comforted knowing the people I work with and our leaders work hard every day -- in demonstrable, real ways -- to set examples and create a studio where everyone is heard, welcomed, and safe.
I've had a lot of people reach out to ask me if I'm okay, if this is something I deal with -- and while it's NOT something I deal with every day now, it is something I have dealt with the past at previous jobs (both FT and freelance) and the PTSD has me crawling up the walls.
But I mean it when I say my team, this studio, is different. We come to the table every day from places of respect and understanding, and do good work. Bumps in the road happen but we are all working hard to make sure they're just that -- bumps.
It would be easy for me to have rage quit this industry years ago with all the crap I've dealt with. But I think about the women and BIPOC who are just starting, or who have yet to start, and I want them to have a safe space to work in. I want them to be here.
