what if trump style politics means much more polarization on high-salience identity issues and we always get presidential style turn out, thus dampening any huge waves
I don’t know if I’d say it’s likely, but obviously easy to think we’re headed for our third straight election like that in 2020 (people forget that Dems gained seats in house and senate in 2018, even if the gains were smaller than expected)

yeah that sounds right, i wouldn't be surprised if 16, 18, and 20 all look similar to each other even if the outcomes are a bit different
