I hear you Alex, but teachers are also aware of this - talented pupils who (for example) underperformed in mock exams can still be awarded a higher grade based on other evidence.
-
Sometimes teachers miss 'talented pupils' who really do save their effort until the end and outperform all previous evidence & expectation..

I’ll be honest, I’m gutted for my tutee. He’s likely to get his predicted grade of a 5 in Lit and Lang but we were pushing hard for 6s and I really think he could have got there.

Really sorry for them and sad to say not all teachers will risk rewarding potential and creativity. Would have still got you on Alevel history somehow though! (You too Edwin if you’re reading this)

If you’re African, Asian or Caribbean heritage you don’t have to worry about being wayward to be under-estimated... there’s a pattern. I faced it at high school, FE college, and Cambridge Uni. Many Black students shared anecdotal experiences with me as their NUS national officer.
