Here, climate migrants will rarely be found in mass camps of makeshift shelters. They'll be your kids' school friends newly arrived from Florida; the young woman at work who took a job she's overqualified for to fund a move; the family sleeping in a car with out-of-town plates.

This seems inevitable, particularly when large groups of people are transplanted to an area with a vastly different culture. Both sides are going to have a lot of serious disagreements. Integration will not happen as groups close themselves off into proverbial "Little Chinas/Xs"

Yep. I think people may underestimate the role of climate speculation in Seattle’s housing prices. Almost everyone I know here that’s bought a house has explicitly mentioned the long term climate migration aspect as a reason they think prices will keep climbing.

We're already seeing it in the PNW, people moving from all over the country for a more "stable" local economy, but also a more "stable" future in a climate changed world.

I’ve seen “wealthier people moving to places they expect to be less hard-hit in the future” in the wealthy hurt by the Oct. No California fires-now leveling their property, selling the land to move to cheaper locals w/ less chance of 100 - 50 yr disasters coming every 20 yrs.

The rich people I know are still too in denial to make a move based on climate change.

We're climate migrants and chose our destination based on likely conditions when our kids are having kids. But I'm already wondering if it's going to be enough. Probably not.

Agreed. The night of the '16 election, I met a neighbor who moved from NOLA after Katrina, to live with family here in CA. I told her, "so you're a climate refugee." She hadn't ever thought of it that way before. But she agreed.

Central Texas has been getting climate refugees since 2005. And it’s hard for them to settle here because it’s so expensive!
