Just discovered that you can turn off a lot of notification triggers from social media ~which is great since like 90% of my FB usage starts w/ a notif. or red dot~ - - -

There was a bunch of other interesting data shared, some of which I summarized w/ audience questions in a 2-page notes doc at and even more which is in the 2019 report itself at

Good then Sad: Men & women are equally likely to have mentorship, but men are 46% more likely to have sponsorship. A nice primer I found on the difference between the two is . 5/

Cool: 16% of women, and 16% of men, left their jobs last year. It’s the same! *Common knowledge* that women will quit their jobs more often (due to life/kids/etc.) is unsubstantiated. 4/

Hope: Commitment (self-reported) to diversity & inclusion has increased significantly between 2015 and 2019 - Companies went from 74% to 87% - Men went from 33% to 51% - Women went from 44% to 61% 3/

Sad: Women make up 48% at entry-level (yay!), but only 38% at manager-level (the Broken Rung), and only 22% at C-suite (the Glass Ceiling) 2/

Unlike the other hybrids, this isn’t your grandparents’ apple. Cosmic Crisp tasted like a whole new era. 🍎💫🍎✨🍎

Cosmic Crisp was created by Washington State Uni from a breeding program started in 1997. It’s a cross between Honeycrisp and Empire, and has a shelf life of 10 months. 10/

Cosmic Crisp. Wow oh wow. 💯💯💯 Biting into this apple was next level. We had no idea an apple could be so juicy, so satisfyingly crispy, and so balanced between sweet and sour. We’ve been scouring markets in Boston to find it since it’s commercial release on Dec 2, 2019. 9/

We found Fujis to be sweet with little to no sourness. They’re much less crispy than the others, but weren’t mealy like red delicious. They make up 55% of Japan’s apple exports and 70% of China’s. Their skin is nice and thin. Overall we enjoyed Fuji a lot. 8/

The Fuji apple is from Japan. Surprisingly, it’s an older cultivar from way back in the 1930s! It’s a cross between Red Delicious and Ralls Janet (which was grown at Monticello by Jefferson), two apples that vastly predate our modern patent system. 7/

Honeycrisp was also developed at U of Minnesota, back in 1974. It didn’t debut and get patented until ~1990. It’s the 5th most grown apple, though it’s lineage is uncertain with genetic testing in 2004 showing the parent’s hybrid-parent claims were wrong. 5/

We thought SweeTango was tart like a Granny Smith and not very juicy. It has a refrigerated shelf life of 4 months and browned quickly when we left slices out (only Fuji browned more) 4/

SweeTango was created by the Univ of Minnesota in 2000 and first sold in 2009. It’s a cross between Honeycrisp and Minnewashta (Honeycrisp is one of the most desired hybrid-parents). It’s patent will expire in 2028, and was issued 1 year before the Honeycrisp patent expired. 3/

(why only four types? we avoided red delicious, granny smith, mcintosh; apples which we knew just couldn’t hold up to the other competitors) 2/

My gf & I tried the main apple cultivars at the grocery store (blind tasting). Our definitive ranking: 1. Cosmic Crisp 2. Fuji 3. Honeycrisp 4. SweeTango It was like comparing Coke to RC Cola though—Cosmic Crisp was simply in a league of its own. We also learned apple facts 1/
