One thing to note about this: I don’t control for age, income, ethnicity, race, or anything else. Throw in any control and the gap expands mightily.

New Cato paper. In Texas in 2017, illegal immigrants were 47 percent less likely to be convicted of a crime than native-born Americans. How much of this is attributable to immigrants being suspicious of police and when they are victims of a crime they do report it less frequently?

Some. That doesn’t matter for homicide though and the gap there is still large
