I bought a chicken sandwich tonight. Tried to pay with social cohesion and solidarity. The guy who sold me the sandwich wasn’t having it. Had to use money.

What good is social cohesion and solidarity if they can’t even buy a chicken sandwich?

“But if scholars p-hack hard enough, there is a positive correlation between a metric that I assume means social cohesion and something good. Don’t ask me for a model.” My brief summary of the trust literature.

Japan also requires money in exchange for chicken sandwiches.

This is really the fundamental problem with a lot of social science stat work; if a model is presented it is probably underdefined/has incorrect functional form. And results focus on stat significance when they should focus on explanatory power of the IV in question.

That is a bad summary of the literature. Bad literature reviews are also a problem.

High levels of trust in public and private institutions correlates w less government control of economic and social life. Huge implications for libertarian ideashttps://reason.com/2019/03/09/everyone-agrees-government-is/ …

In that research, it’s just as likely that market institutions —> trust. Most of the IVs violate the exclusion restriction.
