I'm afraid most of the effect is lost in the terrible twitter video quality
-
I've noticed sometimes when it first uploads it's the worst, and then it gets a bit better... fingers crossed :P Maybe I should post a higher quality one on youtube.

So cool! Any tips on how you made it? Does it work with any material and does it require any sort of baking?

Good news: there are several excellent terrain shaders for Unity that do this. Off the top of my head there's Microsplat and RTP. I'm using Microsplat, which gives some nice blending settings for stylized stuff. You can do it yourself, but most of the work is matching terrain.

This is an older asset, but would it achieve the same sort of thing?https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/terrain/terrain-mesh-blending-38742 …

Hey Nick! That looks like it will work, but the question is, what ground are you trying to blend with? If it's terrain with varied splatmaps, I would use a terrain shader that already has the feature. Looks like that asset will only work with one texture at a time.

Really adds to the organic fuzzy-ness of the scene! The rocks become a part of the environment a lot more.

Yeah, it really feels like it takes a big step from normal game 3d toward a satisfying, integrated 2d image. Especially when you look at the whole picture. Takes away those hard edges of the 3d models clipping the ground.
