That’s really interesting because I naturally put those sorts of qualifiers in my own writing and grew up reading NME about a decade after when those changes were made.
[hat is thrown in, uninvited] There's a certain part of me (and I like Neil's stuff) that thinks: 'well, you should work that stuff in a way that maintains the rhythm, working with editors is the job'.

There is that. My reaction is probably coloured by the fact I do (and am currently procastination from) corporate work, which involves working to much more arbitrary restrictions.
