If I wanted to jump aboard the Uncharted train, is this a good place to start? Is 4? Or do I need to start from the start?

I'd say start from 2 - there's a remastered set of the first 3 available. You can skip 1, it's not as good, but it's also not bad. But you need to follow the characters to fully appreciate 4.
