Finally started Handmaid's Tale last night. It's a neat adaptation, beautifully presented, but not sure whether it actually adds anything.

The first episode did a great job of foregrounding the horror of, not the events, but the fact Offred can't openly react to them.

Her voice is stolen, and the narration is claustrophobic, and that's something I never really picked up on in the book.

But I feel like most of my pleasure is derived from seeing how elements are adapted. (There's a lit theory term for that, which escapes me.)

I was reading Handmaid's Tale immediately before I proposed. The first episode aired the day after our wedding. I find the irony amusing.
