I guess what I'm getting at is: It's unusual to consider bodies of work that stretch over, in particular, the last few decades.

Which has been a time of pretty rapid change, in terms of progressive thinking.

And I'm not necessarily talking about Whedon here (because I worry about being an apologist) but, struggling to think of other examples.

It's unusual for an artist have one peak in the late '90s, and then another in the early-'10s, y'know?

I guess Grant Morrison would be another example, of someone who's had a pretty consistent career for 30 years.

(As opposed to an Alan Moore, who I tend to think of as past, and so dealing with the problematic elements of his work feels simpler.)

(Or, yeah, Frank Miller.)
