If you're reaching for the watered-down copies to prove why Pikachu's great, I think you're arguing with yourself.

I think if you're not considering the effects of later pokemon to a list of best gen 1 then you're not a true pokéfan

Not sure of your point there. Simpson's isn't the greatest show ever exactly because of the later seasons. Where as

Pikachu goes from strength to strength with new prevolutions, costumes, solo games, toys etc etc

Those 'Prevolutions' (not a word) are Seasons 16-26 of the Simpsons. This is my point.
