I haven't checked back to '55, and '44 was a weird year (vinyl shortage, musicians strike), but '66, '77, '88 (maybe), and '99 (definitely) were great music years. Don't think it extends to the 2000s, though 2010 and 2011 were great for K-pop.
2010 was great, not feeling quite so optimistic for 2021. Another weird year, I guess.
The question, tho, is whether we should be counting 2010 or 2011? If the latter, then also 2000, which I recall being pretty exciting but not up to 1999. But also, then, 2022, which perhaps will be fabulous, though more likely in Brazil or Vietnam or Kazakhstan than in the U.S.
