It's Saturday morning and I feel like injecting a bit of positivity so LET'S DO SOME RECS. Stuff I've watched/listened to/played recently and loved. Throw your own in, if you fancy.

Al Ewing & Juann Cabal's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY might be the first time I've enjoyed cosmic Marvel. It's the perfect halfway point between Ewing's Avengers and Immortal Hulk – huge unironic superhero joy, underlaid with all-too-human despair.pic.twitter.com/iRn4wjuybu

It's also got Daddy Hercules embracing his bisexuality. So, um, paging all thirsty Hades fans.pic.twitter.com/6uy7SHlbRj

You could tell TEARDOWN was going to be technological magic from the gifs, but the actual game at the centre is better than I could've hoped. Carefully-planned one-minute heists in endlessly destructible levels.https://twitter.com/i/status/1278418537040809985 …

And I'll always recommend ThoBubs, in any form, and the stuff Michael & Amy Garvey-Eckett make together. If you're doing the digital con thing, find them in the Travelling Man Hall.https://twitter.com/LamyGarbage/status/1327554472332156928 …

Watched BROAD CITY through for the first time and, it's pretty great throughout, but it really develops into something special around season 3. This is when you realise these characters have embedded themselves in your heart and they can break it, now.pic.twitter.com/cRWkPB4TFk

(It's also very funny, natch, and a wonderful portrayal of female friendship, and it has Hannibal Buress in so what more do you need honestly... but, just saying, it hits a little different when you're sorely missing your friends and doing stuff out in the world.)

OFF MENU is, to pick a predictable metaphor, my 2020 comfort food. The rare interview podcast where I listen to every episode – I might not care about the guest but do I want to judge their food opinions? yes, obviouslypic.twitter.com/k5R59JjJYf

From the other end of my podcast interests: CEREBRO is a character-by-character X-Men show. Part explainer, part discussion, with some great perspectives from the guests. As DoX pushes the subtext to the forefront, a good look at the queerness of Marvel's Merry Mutants.pic.twitter.com/lCJR0ZGxPa

SUPERMAN SMASHES THE KLAN is a fascinating comic, and not (only) for the reasons I expected. It's a child-friendly look at racism that has got plenty for grownups. Balances nuanced depiction of the Asian-American experience with getting to see Superman wreck some racists.pic.twitter.com/qDtCkQag3Q

Two episodes to go, but LOVE LIFE is basically a new Anna-Kendrick-starring indie romcom every week. I remember when I first watched Eternal Sunshine, and went on the hunt for films that felt like its more down-to-earth parts – this is exactly what I was looking for.pic.twitter.com/O6S9oKKk72

I watched the first episode and thought 'oh, this seems aggressively targeted at
@Reecelipman'. And then, a few later, there was a scene set at the Hamilton merch stand. Just laser focused. I dunno if he's watched it yet.Näytä tämä ketju -
It's got two big formalist devices, one I'm unsure about (the omniscient narrator, which I'm hoping will pay off somehow) and one I *love* (every episode is a new person, and a different era in the lead's life). This could be a trap, but the show finds some interesting twists.

...okay, phew. I think that's my mental drafts folder cleared out. Anyone else got stuff they want to rec? If I'm not familiar I'll make an effort to check it out, if I am I can probably co-sign.
