It's interesting the way this episode represents a complete shift in the way vampires are used in the show - Spike even explicitly references that they're ditching the self-seriousness, rituals, and prophecies

Bunch of fun role reversals here - Xander as the action hero and Buffy as the damsel in distress, etc. Though the male gaze very much rears its ugly head again with Willow's costume (what is she even supposed to be?)

This episode is like ground zero for an obsession of Buffy and Angel's – the whole 'role switching, people become their masks' thing. Dollhouse is very much a logical endpoint. (As logical as anything re: Dollhouse ever gets, anyway.(

Oh god that's a difficult question. It's completely fascinating, and if one of those 'thing you like more than anyone you know' memes comes around for TV shows mine will probably just be Dollhouse four times, but even I can't necessarily say it's *good*.
