Recommendations please: I’d like to find an entry-level video game for our 4yo. He likes puzzles and animals. We have an Xbox and a PC. Oh, and I’m not interested in anyone’s parental judgement, so please don’t @ me with any patronising nonsense about screen time...

Games I know, kids not so much, but lessee...
If you're going to play together, Viva Pinata is a wonderful animal-based game – but it might be a bit wordy/complex if they're doing it on their own. There's a co-op mode that I think makes one of you the main player and the other an assistant.

The Lego games are great too – Star Wars, Harry Potter, Batman, all that stuff – simple enough to just smash around in and learn how controls work, and again very co-op friendly if you want to play alongside them.

And then there's a whole world of 3D platformers with cute animal characters (your Crash Bandicoots, Yooka-Laylees, Lucky's Tales, etc etc) but they'll likely require more dexterity, so that's probably something to grow innto.
