Also, I said during our own discussion that Loki is like the opposite of Chekov's Gun - if you take him out of the story during the first act, you can bet he'll be back by the third

That was gonna be my question. Asking the odds on if he's really dead. Or rather, asking how you think he'll come back. And why he thought being eaten proved any point about him being trustworthy since at this point everyone knows to betray Loki before he betrays you.

As with any deaths/resurrections in comics, I think the question is less when/how and more what impact it will have on the characters. I trust Aaron enough that, whether it's a fake-out by Loki or he comes back by other means, there will be plot and emotional consequences

WhileI generally trust Aaron, I have to say I don't love how he's handled Loki in general. I think Gillen and Ewing took the character in an interesting new direction and Aaron's treatment has felt like a step back from that. So I'm kind of hoping Loki stays dead for a bit.

Or, really more like a half step. I can't get a handle on if he's supposed to be a regretful hero forced into bad circumstances and making morally grey choices to try to serve a greater good or if he's regressing back into being a villain and feels tormented by that regression.

And while Loki is a character with some ambiguity to him, this has felt less like that and more like a lack of authorial direction, like Aaron isn't sure either. And that's not great. He has done a masterful job with the rest of the Thor cast though.

I'll admit I'm still making my way through Aaron's Thor run, and he hasn't really tackled Loki so far where I'm at. I'm interested to see his approach to the character, and I hope knowing the destination before the journey doesn't spoil it

I don't think it will. I also wonder how he reads if you're just reading the Thor run. Loki also shows up in Aaron's first arc of Avengers and in Donny Cates's run on Dr. Strange (which was started by Aaron). And those appearances felt consistent with how he was in Thor to me.

I have a big pile of Aaron and Cates Dr Strange waiting to be read, but I sort of bounced off his Avengers run. Might give it another go in time...

It's not my favorite Avengers run (and I found the recent 4 issue arc particularly meh) but he's done some interesting things with it and I think Issue #12 about the Avengers support staff was especially good.

Yeah, #12 is the one that got me back on it.
