After one episode of "You", can't decide whether I hate it or not. It's definitely self-aware about the whole 'nice guy' thing, but...

It's kind of hard to tell how much of the protagonist's inner murmurings the show is actually supporting. 'Yes he's a bad person but isn't he really speaking truth about social media?'

The fact that it's showrun by a woman and gay man does give me some faith in that regard (given the lead is, and this is very much the point of the show, a hetero man).

I'm intrigued by the idea of 'American Psycho, but for romcoms' – in particular, the wave of early-00s indie romances that shaped me and a lot of my friendship group – but is that something I really want 12 hours of?

The gradual 'lobster boiling' escalation from 'oh it's a nicely-shot quirky romance story where the characters read books' to 'OH JESUS CHRIST' is interesting, especially if you're watching (as I was) with someone who doesn't know that's where it's headed.
