Everyone thinks affordable housing is only abt serving those w/ low incomes. There's more to it in our housing crisis. My Ivy League educated daughter who’s an attorney must rent to live in her hometown due to the outrageous cost of housing in coastal Orange County.

She grew up in a middle-class neighborhood in an smallish house b/c that's what her mother & I could afford back in 1990. That smallish house is now worth +/- $800k. Even w/ her six-figure salary, she rents a room from a old friend who inherited her home after her parents died.

historical context: from the city's origins, East Austin was the black neighborhood and South Austin was the latino neighborhood; gentrification in the 90s pushed latino ppl from South to East, and gentrification in 2000s pushed everyone out of the city entirely
