1/ James is wrong on either the facts or my views all four ways here. That said, I appreciate his willingness to engage with me on the issues rather than simply calling me a grifter or saying I must be wrong because everyone knows it...https://twitter.com/JamesSurowiecki/status/1301940369513422848 …

When it comes to marijuana, Berenson is utterly risk-intolerant: he thinks a very small increase in the incidence of psychosis and violent crime would justify keeping pot illegal, with all the attendant social costs (prison, job loss, etc.) and restrictions on freedom. pic.twitter.com/F5S3C3UfzJ

2/ By all four ways, I mean: (1) The cannabis/psychosis risk is not "very small"; (2) while I don't favor a legalized cannabis industry, I don't think users or most dealers should face risk of prison, as in fact they do not - this position is generally called "decriminalization".

3/ (3) It has been clear for months the risks from #COVID are in range of the flu to almost anyone who is not very elderly or doesn't have severe comorbidities; it is increasingly clear the death counts are substantially overstated, though we don't know by how much...

4/ (4) The costs of lockdowns have been far higher than even the worst estimates (including their health costs; if #COVID deaths are overstated, lockdown deaths must be understates). Meanwhile their effectiveness appears to be near zero. Aside from that, everything's great.

I am an example of someone whose health has deteriorated because of these lockdowns. And it seems that no one gives a damn about someone like me.

The problem is that now, going forward, the conventional wisdom will be that they "worked."

This point right here is what gives me the most consternation. If lockdowns/masks worked, and this virus was truly “deadly”, I think we’d all be more onboard. But they don’t, and it isn’t. It truly makes my head hurt seeing so much idiotic groupthink.

They hate us who think or challenge their pretend wisdom. The terms Dr., Professor, Scientist, etc. evoke intelligence and respect. But it's an illusion they cloak well with mere title. Their walls decorated with documents reminding them of their superiority to us mere plebeians.

I agree with all of it. The Lockdown is an atrocity. The Covid19 epidemic is self-extinguishing, and is comparable to a bad year for seasonal flu. Cannabis is much more dangerous than we used to think. Adults should be totally free to take the risks of consuming cannabis.
