having spent literally two straight months not going on twitter once, its rapid degradation into an even worse nazi hell pit is quite shocking. the differences are stark. why do i keep seeing nft grifter spaces at the top of the page? and almost all blue checks are now fascists!

Two main, very alarming things stick out here: 1. There is something truly rotten within the video games community broadly. 2. AI tools are going to grant extremists a force multiplier of at *least* the same magnitude as the internet.

I wonder if it's a coincidence that grievance--about anything--is a well-supported root cause of individual and collective radicalization

It’s fun that these guys just confess it —this is about revenge and obscuring the aberrance of far right members—and still so much of the coverage of it repeats the pretext uncritically. twitter.com/ArthurDelaneyH…

We've repeatedly blocked this loser from shopping on pitviper.com, but he found a way. So here we are again, giving his recent order of $634.50 to the SPLC. When you spread hate in Pit Vipers, we donate your money to a cause that works against you. #pitvipergivesafuck

this is the main problem with the "if you think the GOP is fascist, vote moderate Dems" line of argument too. many people believe moderate Dems to have taken actions that enabled fascist creep, which means that "just vote for the popular ones" isn't compelling (even if it's true)

I don't think it's quite right to say that the GOP is fascist. But this genre of argument -- "Well, if you really believed that X was fascist, then surely you would be taking this obviously counterproductive and politically impossible action" -- is so weird and dumb. twitter.com/shadihamid/sta…

look there are many flavors of reactionary apocalyptica but it is very notable that essentially all of them boil down to "dude with unprecedented (possibly divine) power appears suddenly in the time of most need, sweeps away all that is corrupt, and establishes a golden age"

worth spelling it out clearly: Elon Musk is about 1/2 step from open eco-fascism and is already a very VERY useful figurehead for eco-fascist movements.

This is one of the first studies ever empirically looking at the mechanisms by which gaming as an activity can link to dangerous social phenomena. It is absolutely essential reading for all in the games industry and in extremism studies.

We have known for years that violent video games do not lead to violence. However, we must add nuance to that conclusion: gaming communities, and the process of identity fusion, may lead to extreme behaviors, and violent games may have a stronger propensity for that than others.

this is an incredibly striking study on the links between gaming and antisocial behavior eg racism, sexism, from et al. It shows evidence that gamer identity fusion correlates with those behaviors, & stronger with violent games like Call of Duty.
