Where we are right now is still skewed by the delusion that the Left will eventually find a way to accommodate itself to the findings of science, rather than seeking ever more ruthlessly to criminalize them.
The left thinks like Lamarck or Lysenko. The technology to accommodate the prescriptive philosophies of the left doesn't exist, and more importantly seems to require right wing political machinations to even eventually achieve. Hence neoliberalism I suppose.
