And why wouldn't China use embryo selection and CRISPR to their advantage? People in the US are scared of this technology for reasons of inequality and "eugenics" Iterated embryo selection and cloning might truly be a game changer.

I hope China doesn't because that would mean stretching out thr trajectory of a despotic system longer, though I suppose the US is also despotic in its own ways. The best case scenario is that freedom minded people augment themselves while authoritarians everywhere perish.

I don't like China as a force for the worse in this world but I want Chinese people to thrive by being healthier and smarter. Sometimes what happens to the people doesn't matter so much for if the regime persists. Tens of millions of Chinese starved and we still have China.
