This is a good metaphor. And it kind of explains why so many rats are prone to un-yudkowskian attraction to grand frameworks that are fabricated or unfalsifiable: they are at least legible, understandable.

sure but i suspect even people who are skeptical about frameworks tacitly inhabit them i'm sure i do but unless i can think of a way it's part of my problems, i'll live with it
