Yeah nah, longtermism doesn't add up. For one, you cannot count far future lives as being worth as much as current ones (that would imply they will certainly be) and them justify present misery because we need to improve odds of far future lives (because future is uncertain).

Now we can debate all day how likely the 10^58 scenario is. I would argue that it is so unlikely that it isn't even worth one present life.
